VISITATION: 5~7 PM Thursday @ Beard’s Funeral Chapel
FUNERAL MASS: 11 AM Friday @ St. Joseph Catholic Church
INTERMENT: Fayetteville National Cemetery
John was born September 26, 1941 in Granville, New York. He grew up in Whitehall, New York,
where he was not only a brilliant student, but also a terrific athlete participating in football, track and wrestling. He graduated from the Saint Lawrence School of Nursing in 1963, and it was during this time that he met the great love of his life, fellow nursing student Gail VanNortwick. The two were married and had three daughters. John was a devoted husband and father. During the last few years of his declining health, he ended every conversation with his daughters by saying “take good care of your Mother for me.”
John proudly served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and is a veteran of the
Vietnam War where he served as a nurse anesthetist with the 2nd Surgical Hospital in Chu Lai and helped save many lives. After his military service John and Gail left New York for warmer environs and headed south to Fort Smith, Arkansas. John was a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Saint Edward’s Mercy Medical Center from 1969 until his retirement in 2001. Upon retirement, John and Gail moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas to spend more time with their daughters and grandchildren. John’s last two years were spent in the Springdale Health and Rehabilitation Center where the patient and caring staff took great care of him.
John loved to learn and emphasized life-long education to his daughters. In the early days his television was usually tuned into AETN, the local PBS affiliate. John embraced technology and saw the internet as an unlimited resource for learning. After retirement, he was often found in his office watching college lectures on-line. Gail always said “he knew a little bit about a lot of things.” John was a man of honor and integrity. He was smart and outspoken and will be terribly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Lewis Martucci and Jane Elizabeth Ayers Martucci of Whitehall, New York and his brother Frank Lewis Martucci, Jr. of Saratoga Springs, New York. He is survived by his wife, Gail Martucci; three children, Stephanie Martucci-Rohrbach and husband Terrell Rohrbach, Paula Martucci, Sarah Martucci Green and husband Danny W. Green, Jr. all of Fayetteville; a brother, Thomas Martucci and wife Kathy Martucci of Waretown, New Jersey; a sister, Darlene Martucci of Fayetteville; and six grandchildren, Alexandra Rohrbach, Cathleen Lowe, Sophia Jane Green, Christian Rohrbach, Wyatt Green and Roman Green, all of Fayetteville.
