    Dear Ellen,

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Juba’s untimely passing. I am so grateful for the friendship he and Ty shared. He had such a beautiful, gentle soul. He was someone every mother would have been proud of. May you find peace in the knowledge that his life, though short, touched others in such a positive way.

I always think fondly of Juba when I pass your old house on Louise Street, Ellen. I regret losing touch with him and your family in recent years. Ben is truly heartbroken–he always looked up to Juba. May you and your family find peace.

Juba was such a great friend to me! He will really be missed. We talked and joked a lot. He always kept a great sense of humor, no matter what our troubles were. He was a smart, and patient man. He valued friendship and his family. He would always listen to me and give me insightful feedback. He was a spiritual man. We shared some great times together. We ran away from a hurricane once when we used to live in New Orleans. We had some wild times in New Orleans! I’ll never forget Juba. I pray peace for his family in this difficult time. Thank you for being a good friend Juba!

The pain I feel at the loss of my friend pales in comparison to the pain you, his family, must be feeling. The thing I will always remember the most fondly about Juba is his strong, gentle, deep voice. His voice was so unique and pleasant. Juba and I were friends for many years. We didn’t always see each other, but we always talked on the phone. When he moved to New Orleans especially, we spoke on the phone every few days. He was trying a new path and needed someone to run things by and confide in. I cherish those conversations. I am so happy that we reconnected in the last year and started up our phone conversations. When Ellen called, from Juba’s phone, about his tragic early departure, I just thought it was him calling to chat. My love and prayers are with you. I love you Juba. I miss you already.
