Melvin Vernon Parrish, February 24, 1927 ~ February 17, 2014

Melvin Vernon Parrish, 86 of Cullman, Alabama passed away, Monday, February 17, 2014 at his home. He was born February 24, 1927 in Blackburn, Arkansas to James Parrish and Mary Elizabeth Davis Parrish.

SFC Melvin V. Parrish served his country in the U.S Army in Korea during 1950-1952. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred Parrish; five sisters, Violet Bowling, Dorothy Lyons, Evelyn Wise, May Johnson and Oneita Walker and two brothers, Delbert Parrish and Glen Parrish. Survivors include his three sons, William Dean Parrish and wife Phyllis of Jasper, AL, Russell Parrish and wife Mickey of Cullman, AL and Larry Parrish and wife Charla of Hoover, AL; daughter, Denise Bates and husband Larry of Jasper, AL; two brothers, Huebert Parrish and wife Melva and Lambert Parrish both of Fayetteville, AR; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and several other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the funeral Home. A Funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at Beard’s Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville with Bruce Smithson officiating. Burial will be at Baptist Ford Cemetery .

    My sympathy to the Parrish family. Mel was my boss and mentor at Spring Valley Farms/Tyson Foods for 17 years. He was such a kind gentleman. I am thankful for the years I knew him.

    I wish to say I have only know Mr.Melvin Parrish a year and three months he was a dear friend and will be missed by myself and the other ladies that helped with his care they all loved him he was always so appreciated everything you did for him.Also he truly loved his family and wanted them to love each other as he loved them .My heart goes out to the entire family.     I cannot express the love I had for this wonderful man. He was the most special man I ever met. It is such a blessing to just have known him. I have never known anyone so kind and caring.     I only knew Mr parrish a short year, but was a wonderful year. He tought me a lot of things in life. He was a amazing man and im so lucky to have got know him. Ill miss a more than any one will know. Ill miss taking him to the park feeding the ducks eating ice cream, getting lost driving around around the lake. We always had a great time. my heart goes out to th whole family.

    There are no words to Completely express my sorrow in n’t heart. Mr. Parrish was truly a great father,husband and the best friend I have every had. So kind and always so appreciative of anything you did with him are for him. I will always love him heart and soul. My thoughts and prayers to all his family and friends. Will miss him so much.
