Jessie Belle Smith Garriott, October 13, 1935~June 13, 2015

Garriott for PaperJessie Belle Smith Garriott, 79, of Fayetteville, AR., died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at her home.  She was born October 13, 1935 to Avery and Cora Brigham Smith in Bushland, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William A. Garriott; daughter, Phyllis Garriott; granddaughter, Amy Garriott Thigpen; sisters, Allie Langston, Veatrose Rea and Ann Gooding; brothers, James Langston and Avery Smith II.

She is survived by her daughters, Doskie (Gary) Gumm, Barbara (Terry) Stout of Elkins and Mary Lucille (Oscar) Miller of Hindsville; one son, James (Kay) Miller of Farmington; grandchildren, Dena (Jesse) Minnick of Lowell, Jamie (Amanda) Coleman of Elkins, Jason Stout of Farmington, Kristy Stout of Fayetteville, Wanda (Billy) Collins of Farmington, Matthew (Britney) Miller of Farmington, Joseph Miller of Farmington, and Melinda Foster of Springdale; nineteen great- grandchildren; one great-great- granddaughter due in July; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jessie retired from Armstrong Tool.  She was a hard worker and was never still. After retirement from Armstrong Tool, she worked as a custodian for Bee Branch Public Schools.  Jessie loved flowers and had many varieties in her yard.  She was well known for her kind and caring ways and she was a caregiver to many people.

Jessie loved the Lord and always strived to do what was right. She was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone she knew who was in need.  Many times when she heard of a complete stranger who had nowhere to go and no one to share Christmas or Thanksgiving meals with, she invited them to her table.  Jessie believed in and found the good in everyone.

Jessie was an amazing cook, and enjoyed making new recipes for everyone to sample.  She collected cookbooks and was the proud owner of several hundred cookbooks.  She loved antiques of all kinds, furniture, dishes, and especially ‘antique’ people like herself who was “raised the right way to work hard and make do with what you have, be respectful, helpful and never forget where you came from”.

Mom, Nanny, friend, we love you, we miss you. We will cherish the precious memories you gave us to tide us over until we meet again in Heaven.

I think Jessie was one of the hardest working people I have ever met. She would stand at the old burr wheel ALL day long. I don’t know how she done it as long as she did. May God bless each of you now and in the days ahead. Sandra Easley, Armstrong Tool
