Loraine Chloe Samples Shipley, July 22, 1926~July 14, 2015

Shipley, Loraine for PaperLoraine Chloe Samples Shipley of Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015.  She was born on July 22, 1926 in Japton to Bob and Cara Esta (Ball) Edens. She was preceded in death by her loved ones, her parents; her husband, Jess Shipley; a son, Greg Samples; a sister, Val Shipley; three brothers, Leon Edens, Calvin Lawrence Edens and Kenneth A. Edens. Her remaining immediate family is her brother, Elige Edens of West Fork; daughter, Brenda Schulteis of Fresno, CA.; sons, Geary Douglas (Twilla) Samples of  Lodi, CA., Lanny (Susie) Samples of Fayetteville, and Berris (Brenda) Samples of Durango, CO. She had 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Loraine was a special and talented person, a dedicated mother and friend. After raising children at home for over ten years, she became an electronics technician at Baldwin Piano Company in Fayetteville, and later in California.  She had a happy marriage to Jess for over 20 years. Moving back to Arkansas in 1993, she resided in Farmington where she was an active and faithful member and volunteer at the Farmington Church of Christ.  She was active in their quilting group and Thursday School for preschoolers.  Her lap quilts went to children’s homes and hospitals across the state.

Gardening, quilting and cooking were her love and avocation. Her house was filled with dozens of cookbooks, her yard with hundreds of flowers (her past organic gardens with truckloads of vegetables) and her family and friends blessed with countless hand-stitched quilts. Her final gift to loved ones is stuffed, patch-work teddy bears made from her quilts.

Loraine’s going away service will be held at the Farmington Church of Christ at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 17, 2015 and private burial later at Ledbetter Cemetery in Madison County under the direction of Beard’s Chapel. Donations or gifts in her honor can bless the Ledbetter Cemetery Fund (the Edens/Ball Family Cemetery), c/o Bank of Fayetteville- Ledbetter Trust Fund, The Willard Walker Hospice Home and the Farmington Church of Christ Building Fund.

There is no scheduled visitation.

Deepest sympathies to all the family. Loraine was loved by all those whose lives she touched in many different ways. Loraine was so kind and so sensitive to others and their needs, she was generous with her time and energy. Loraine’s faith was evident in the way she lived and how she cared for people. May God provide comfort and peace to all the family.

    Dear Family and Friends,

We have many fond memories of Aunt Loraine and wish you comfort during this hard time in your life.

Look back on all the good memories you’ve had and smile at the fact that you were able to share these with her before she passed away.

I know that Aunt Loraine and my mother Val Shipley are smiling down on all of us right now.

Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Ms. Shipley was the best kind of neighbor. She brought us Custard Pies whenever we helped her with something. She showed me the quilts she made for her family. She shared her love of cookbooks and samplers. She told me when to take my plants out in the Spring and back inside in the Fall. She will be greatly missed. I hope her flowers bloom forever.

Berris, I did not get to attend your Mom’s service. I was out of town and found out about it later the next week. Since I moved from the neighborhood, I missed talking to your Mom. I did see her a few times after I moved. She always had the prettiest flowers. We shared that interest. She had a wonderful life and filled her time with helping others. Always making a new quilt or something for the grandkids.
