William Riley Lockwood, Sr., May 27, 1950~June 2, 2016

Lockwood1 copySenior Master Sergeant William Riley Lockwood, Sr., known to everyone as Bill Lockwood, age 66, passed away June 2, 2016 surrounded by his children and grandchildren after several months of battling brain cancer.

Born May 27, 1950, Bill is the son of the late Harold and Nell Lockwood, Delaplaine, AR. He is the father of the late William Riley Lockwood II and is survived by his 5 children: Robert McClure, Joel Lockwood, John Lockwood, Spring Lockwood Smith and Noelle Lockwood Powell. He is also survived by his 19 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren.

Bill was a letter carrier for the United States Post Office for over 30 years before retiring in 2005. A Vietnam veteran, he was so proud to serve his country, that two days following his 18th birthday he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Vietnam, where he was part of the 377th Combat Security Police Squadron, receiving medals and several promotions before returning home in 1970. During his military career, he was involved in numerous deployments while in the United States Air Force, United States Coast Guard, Missouri Army National Guard and the Oklahoma Air National Guard before retiring in February 2010.

Bill was a devoted Christian, loving father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed tinkering with automobiles and working in the yard, but most of all, he was a family man and took his role in our lives seriously, always giving to everyone and never wanting anything in return. He had a heart of gold and loved by all that knew him, he will be greatly missed.

Memorial services for Bill will be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas at Beard’s Funeral Chapel on July 8, 2016 at 10 A.M. followed by a procession to the Fayetteville National Cemetery for his military burial at 11 A.M.
